  1. [Genesis 34:1-31 KJV*]

  1. 1 And Dinah[ls][h1783] the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to look upon the daughters of the land.
  2. 2 And Shechem[lt][h7927] son of Hamor[lu][h2544] the Hivite[lv][h2340], prince of the country, saw Aleph/Tav{/Hey} her, and he took Aleph/Tav{/Hey} her, and lay with[h7901] Aleph/Tav{/Hey} her, [h6031]and afflicted her.
  3. 3 And his soul [h1692]clung unto Dinah daughter of Jacob, and he loved[h157] Aleph/Tav–the damsel, and spoke to heart of the damsel.
  4. 4 And Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, take for me Aleph/Tav–the damsel cut from {Zayin/}Aleph/Tav to wife.
  5. 5 And Jacob heard that he had defiled[h2930] Aleph/Tav–Dinah his daughter: but his sons were with Aleph/Tav–his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they were come.
  6. 6 And Hamor father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to speak with Aleph/Tav{/Vav} him.
  7. 7 And sons of Jacob came from the field when they heard: and the men were grieved[h6087], [h2734]and their anger burned exceedingly, because he had committed [h5039]an outrage in Israel in lying with Aleph/Tav–Jacob’s daughter; and such should not  be done.
  8. 8 And Hamor spoke with Aleph/Tav{/Mem} them, saying, Shechem, my son, his soul longs on your daughter: I pray you give Aleph/Tav{/Hey} her to him to wife.
  9. 9 And marry with Aleph/Tav{/Nun/Vav} us: give your daughters unto us, and take Aleph/Tav–our daughters unto you.
  10. 10 And you shall dwell with Aleph/Tav{/Nun/Vav} us: and the land shall be before you; dwell [h5503]and trade in her, [h270]and take possessions in her.
  11. 11 And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what you shall say unto me I will give.
  12. 12 Increase to me an exceeding dowry and gift and I will give as that you shall say unto me, but give me Aleph/Tav–the damsel to wife.
  13. 13 And the sons of Jacob answered Aleph/Tav–Shechem and Aleph/Tav–Hamor his father with deceit, and said, because he had defiled Aleph/Tav–Dinah their sister:
  14. 14 And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give Aleph/Tav–our sister to a man that is for his foreskin; for that a reproach unto us:
  15. 15 But by cut from {Zayin/}Aleph/Tav will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we, to circumcise every male of yours.
  16. 16 Then will we give Aleph/Tav–our daughters unto you, and we will take Aleph/Tav–your daughters to us, and we will dwell with Aleph/Tav{/Kaph/Mem} you, and we will become into one people.
  17. 17 But if you will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take Aleph/Tav–our daughter, and we will be gone.
  18. 18 And their words were pleasing in the eyes of Hamor, and in the eyes of Shechem Hamor's son.
  19. 19 And the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and more [נכבּד][h3513]honored than all his father’s house.
  20. 20 And Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and spoke to the men of their city, saying,
  21. 21 These men they peaceful with Aleph/Tav{/Nun/Vav} us; and they will dwell, and trade[h5503] Aleph/Tav{/Hey} her; for the land, behold, broadness of hands to their faces; let us take Aleph/Tav–their daughters to us for wives, and let us give Aleph/Tav–our daughters to them.
  22. 22 Only by cut from {Zayin/}Aleph/Tav will the men consent unto us to dwell with Aleph/Tav{/Nun/Vav} us, to become into one people, by circumcising every male of ours, as they circumcised.
  23. 23 Not their cattle and their substance and every animal of theirs ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with Aleph/Tav{/Nun/Vav} us.
  24. 24 And unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.
  25. 25 And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city [h983]confidently, and killed every male.
  26. 26 And they killed Aleph/Tav–Hamor and Aleph/Tav–Shechem his son mouth of sword, and took Aleph/Tav–Dinah from Shechem's house, and went out.
  27. 27 Sons of Jacob came upon the slain, [h962]and plundered the city, because they had defiled[h2930] their sister.
  28. 28 They took Aleph/Tav–their flocks, and Aleph/Tav–their oxen, and Aleph/Tav–their donkeys, and Aleph/Tav–that which in the city, and Aleph/Tav–that which in the field,
  29. 29 And Aleph/Tav–all their wealth, and Aleph/Tav–all their little ones, and Aleph/Tav–their wives they took captive, and they plundered Aleph/Tav–all which in the house.
  30. 30 And Jacob said to Simeon and to Levi, Ye have troubled[lw][h5916] Aleph/Tav{/Yod} me to make me to stink[h887] among the inhabitants[h3427] of the land, among the Canaanites and among the Perizzites: and I few in number, and they shall gather against me, and strike me; and I shall be destroyed[h8045], I and my house.
  31. 31 And they said, Should he make Aleph/Tav–our sister [h2181]like the prostitute?

Discussion

  1. [h6031]Afflict/Humble

  1. [Genesis 16:6-9] 6 But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, your maid in your hand; do to her as seems good in your eyes. And when Sarai [h6031]afflicted her, she fled from her face. 7 And the angel of YAHUAH found her by an eye of the water in the wilderness, by the eye on the way to Shur. 8 And he said, Hagar, Sarai's maid, whence camest thou? and whither will thou go? And she said, I flee from the face of my mistress Sarai. 9 And the angel of YAHUAH said unto her, Return to your mistress, [h6031]and humble yourself under her hands.
  2. [Genesis 31:50] 50 If you shalt afflict Aleph/Tav–my daughters, or if you shall take wives upon my daughters, no man with us; see, Alahym a witness between me and you.
  3. [Deuteronomy 21:10-14 KJV] 10 When thou goest forth to war against thine enemies, and YAHUAH thy God hath delivered them into thine hands, and thou hast taken them captive, 11 And seest among the captives a beautiful woman, and hast a desire unto her, that thou wouldest have her to thy wife; 12 Then thou shalt bring her home to thine house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails; 13 And she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thine house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that thou shalt go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife. 14 And it shall be, if thou have no delight in her, then thou shalt let her go whither she will; but thou shalt not sell her at all for money, thou shalt not make merchandise of her, because thou hast humbled her.
  4. [Deuteronomy 22:23-30 KJV] 23 If a damsel [that is] a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; 24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, [being] in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you. 25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die: 26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; [there is] in the damsel no sin [worthy] of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so [is] this matter: 27 For he found her in the field, [and] the betrothed damsel cried, and [there was] none to save her. 28 If a man find a damsel [that is] a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty [shekels] of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. 30 A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover his father's skirt.
  1.  By cut from {Zayin/}Aleph/Tav

  1. [Genesis 17:5-14]  5 Neither shall Aleph/Tav–your name any more be called Abram[h87][אברם], but your name shall be Abraham[h85][אברהם]; because father of [h1995]multitudes of nations[h1471] I have given you. 6 And I will make Aleph/Tav{/Kaph} you fruitful[h6509] exceedingly[h3966][מאד] [h3966][בּמאד]in excess, and I will give you the nations, and kings shall come out of you. 7 And I will establish Aleph/Tav–my covenant between me and between you and between your seed after you [h1755]for their genes for an [h5769]eternity covenant, to be for you for Alahym, and for your seed after you. 8 And I will give unto you, and to your seed after you, Aleph/Tav, [h4033]your pilgrimage land, Aleph/Tav, all the land of Canaan, for an [h5769]eternity  possession; and I will be to them for Alahym. 9 And Alahym said unto Abraham, and Aleph/Tav{/Hey} you shall keep Aleph/Tav–my covenant, Aleph/Tav{/Hey} you, and your seed after you [h1755]for their genes. 10 My covenant cut from {Zayin/}Aleph/Tav, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you: All of your males shall be circumcised[h4135]. 11 [h5243]And you shall cut off Aleph/Tav, your foreskin flesh; and it shall be [לאות][h226]for a token of the covenant between me and you. 12 And a son eight days old shall be circumcised. All your males [h1755]in your genes, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which not of your seed. 13 He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your money, must needs be circumcised: and my covenant shall be in your flesh for an eternity covenant. 14 And the uncircumcised man child whose Aleph/Tav–flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken[h6565] Aleph/Tav–my covenant.
  2. [Ruth 4:12-22 KJV] 12 And let thy house be like the house of Pharez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which YAHUAH shall give thee of [h5291]the damsel cut from {Zayin/}Aleph/Tav. 13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she was his wife: and when he went in unto her, YAHUAH gave her conception, and she bare a son. 14 And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed [be] YAHUAH, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman, that his name may be famous in Israel. 15 And he shall be unto thee a restorer of [thy] life, and a nourisher of thine old age: for thy daughter in law, which loveth thee, which is better to thee than seven sons, hath born him. 16 And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it. 17 And the women her neighbours gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he [is] the father of Jesse, the father of David. 18 Now these [are] the generations of Pharez: Pharez begat Hezron, 19 And Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab, 20 And Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon, 21 And Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed, 22 And Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
  1. Trouble

  1. [Genesis 49:1-7 KJV] 1 And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you [that] which shall befall you in the last days. 2 Gather yourselves together, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; and hearken unto Israel your father. 3 Reuben, thou [art] my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: 4 Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou [it]: he went up to my couch. 5 Simeon and Levi [are] brethren; instruments of cruelty [are in] their habitations. 6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall. 7 Cursed [be] their anger, for [it was] fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.
  2. [Joshua 6:15-24 KJV] 15 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times. 16 And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for YAHUAH hath given you the city. 17 And the city shall be accursed, [even] it, and all that [are] therein, to YAHUAH: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that [are] with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. 18 And ye, in any wise keep [yourselves] from the accursed thing, lest ye make [yourselves] accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. 19 But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, [are] consecrated unto YAHUAH: they shall come into the treasury of YAHUAH. 20 So the people shouted when [the priests] blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. 21 And they utterly destroyed all that [was] in the city, both man and woman, young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword. 22 But Joshua had said unto the two men that had spied out the country, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her. 23 And the young men that were spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; and they brought out all her kindred, and left them without the camp of Israel. 24 And they burnt the city with fire, and all that [was] therein: only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of YAHUAH.
  3. [Joshua 7:1, 10-15, 19-26 KJV] 1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of YAHUAH was kindled against the children of Israel. ... 10 And YAHUAH said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face? 11 Israel hath sinned, and they have also transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: for they have even taken of the accursed thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also, and they have put [it] even among their own stuff. 12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, [but] turned [their] backs before their enemies, because they were accursed: neither will I be with you any more, except ye destroy the accursed from among you. 13 Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow: for thus saith YAHUAH God of Israel, [There is] an accursed thing in the midst of thee, O Israel: thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the accursed thing from among you. 14 In the morning therefore ye shall be brought according to your tribes: and it shall be, [that] the tribe which YAHUAH taketh shall come according to the families [thereof]; and the family which YAHUAH shall take shall come by households; and the household which YAHUAH shall take shall come man by man. 15 And it shall be, [that] he that is taken with the accursed thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath: because he hath transgressed the covenant of YAHUAH, and because he hath wrought outrage in Israel. ... 19 And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to YAHUAH God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide [it] not from me. 20 And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Indeed I have sinned against YAHUAH God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done: 21 When I saw among the spoils a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they [are] hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it. 22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, [it was] hid in his tent, and the silver under it. 23 And they took them out of the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel, and laid them out before YAHUAH. 24 And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the garment, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them unto the valley of Achor. 25 And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? YAHUAH shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones. 26 And they raised over him a great heap of stones unto this day. So YAHUAH turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.
